Alberton Boxing Club fighters claim well-deserved win

The Alberton Boxing Club’s fighters, who recently battled it out in the ring, returned to their Florentia home ground as champions.

The boxers from the Alberton Boxing Club came out on top during a boxing tournament with about 20 bouts hosted in Eden Park.

Martin Noyce and Abeyack Tshamala won their bouts by Referee Stopped Contest, with Violet Noyce declared a runner-up.

Coach Gert de Klerk commended the trio and said these bouts would create more opportunities for them to grow in the sport.

“Three of our boxers boxed on the day, and we had two wins and one loss by points. The fights were good because we had several experienced fighters. I believe we can do more next time. We’re yet to have another tournament, and there will be about seven of our guys fighting there. We are looking forward to it,” he said.

The club has also welcomed their returning coach, Johan Fritz, who left in 2006 and only returned late last year.

The Florentia club is open for new members wanting to join. They train from Mondays to Thursdays from 17:00 to 18:30 at the corner of Second and Helston Streets.
