DB Burundi wins Makhunga tournament in Lawley

DB Burundi FC are the champions of the Njabulo Makhunga Tournament.

The two-day tournament (April 29 and 30) was hosted by Sibonelo Mtshali in Lawley 2.

Sixteen teams participated in this knockout tourney and teams from Soweto, Pretoria, Roodepoort, Kanana Park, Lehea, Lawley Station and Thembilihle participated. People from all walks of life were in attendance to witness different football skills.

Head coach Lwazi Mnisi of DB Burundi from Lawley said he felt proud to scoop the title.

“It was a tough tournament but my boys showed hunger and zeal. We will be back to defend our title,” he said.
DB Burundi walked away with prize money, kit, trophy and medals.

Mtshali said he will be hosting different tournaments, such as the Sihle Mtshali Cup and Lawley Super 8.

“In Lawley we have people who love football and I want to keep such a healthy desire in my neighbourhood. Congratulations to DB Burundi for winning this tournament,” he said.

Sihle Mtshali (26) was a coach and a trainer for Pastor FC in Lawley while Njabulo Makhunga (15) was a plater at the club.

Teams that participated were DB Burundi, SGS, KYD, Layoso, Peace Makers, VBC, KvK, BK Stars, Juventus, Lays Reloaded, Lawley Academy, Long Horn, Amapiano, All Stars, Olympians Stars and Freedom FC.
