WATCH: JRA replaces vandalised traffic lights

Report any vandalised traffic lights in your area.

There is a vandalised traffic light on just about every corner in Joburg South and Gauteng.

Ward 57 Clr Faeeza Chame said the Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) spends millions annually replacing stolen traffic lights. Thieves steal them to sell them to the scrap yards.

“The by-law enforcement department needs to do regular checks on all the scrap yards to ensure they comply and have all their paperwork in order. When no traffic lights work at intersections, it causes serious accidents because some motorists do not observe the road rules.

“After sending numerous reminders to the JRA, they have finally started replacing the traffic lights on the corner of Diagonal and North roads in Regents Park. They will continue to replace if and when calls are logged. I encourage motorists to keep logging calls if they see fallen traffic lights on the roads. Their contribution will make a huge difference,” she said.
