JKA Karateka bring home medals and honors
Karate masters from Alberton and Bassonia dominate JKA Africa Cup, clinching top honors.
In a display of exceptional skill and determination, 22 senior and elite brown and black belts from Alberton JKA and Bassonia JKA showcased their talents at the SA JKA National Championships and JKA Africa Cup.
This impressive contingent represented SA JKA Gauteng, and under the guidance of SAJKA chief instructor Johan le Grange, international liaison sensei Okuma, and JKA vice-chief instructor sensei Ogura from Japan, they demonstrated their prowess on the martial arts stage.
The competitors demonstrated remarkable skill and dedication, resulting in an impressive haul of over 20 individual medals, along with clinching the titles in men’s unison kata and men’s open team kumite.
Adding to the accolades, a group of outstanding individuals were awarded SA JKA colours and earned the honour of representing SA JKA at the highly anticipated Indo-Pacific Championship, scheduled to take place in Mauritius in mid-September.
The recipients of this prestigious recognition include Bruce Smith, Karyn Smith, Earl Opperman, Gert Aucamp, Rorisang Pule, Chadwin Deysel, Alysha Govender, Taylin Bester, Gabby Bester, Matthew Ho Tong, Steve Elliott, Samantha Pillay, Jaco van der Westhuizen, Johan van der Westhuizen, Xavier Strydom, and Josh du Toit.
The success of these karateka not only reflects their individual dedication to the craft but also highlights the exceptional training and mentorship provided by their instructors. Classes catering to various age groups are conducted from Monday to Thursday, with special Dinky classes tailored for the youngest practitioners aged four to seven years.
