Kibler Park boxer ranked number five in the latest world boxing rankings

Simangele 'Smash' Hadebe represents South Africa in the top five and is ranked among two boxers from Mexico, one American and an Argentine.

Kibler Park’s Simangele ‘Smash’ Hadebe was recently ranked number five in the female flyweight fighters’ category in the world.

This is according to BoxRec, which is a website that updates records of professional and amateur boxers, both male and female.
Smash is ranked behind Mexico’s Marilyn Badillo. At number three is Argentina’s Celeste Alaniz, the United States’ Gabriela

Fundora ranks second and at number one is Mexico’s Kenia Enriquez.

Smash competed among the world’s best fighters to boost her ranking
Asked how she feels about being among the top five in the world, Smash said: “It is a big step that I have worked hard for, and it means I will get an opportunity to get a world title shot. I thank my manager and my two coaches who have all been working hard behind the scenes.”

McAusland Boxing Management boasts Smash as one of their fighters and they train at the Kibler Park Recreation Centre in Johannesburg South. Smash’s manager, Colleen McAusland, commented on the latest ranking.

“It is a team effort. In boxing, there are a lot of factors that contribute to success specifically for women in boxing. We have to work much harder to be recognised in the sport.”

Colleen added that they would not have been able to achieve the latest rankings without the support of sponsors.

“We are thankful to our sponsors RGM Cranes and Drivetrain. Sadly, our longest sponsor Rick Rex passed away. Rick was our first sponsor that believed in us as women in boxing,” she said.

Smash is preparing for a World Boxing Council (WBC) silver world title scheduled for April, in Mexico. Potential sponsors can get in touch with Colleen on 067 977 2989 / 072 151 1194 or email mcausland@boxingmanagement.co.za.
