Tiaras and tuxedos launches community empowerment initiative
The new academy combining pageantry with leadership training aims to empower young people.
A new youth development initiative aimed at empowering young people through leadership, education, and creative expression is set to officially launch.
Tiaras and Tuxedos, a pageant and development academy focused on community upliftment, will host its official launch event on March 21 at 12:00 at Fashion Capitol in the Johannesburg CBD.
The organisation seeks to provide a platform for young males and females aged 2 to 27 to develop confidence, discover their talents, and engage in meaningful community work.
The initiative is supported by community leaders and pageant representatives, including Carmel Ngoyi, who currently serves as Miss La Rochelle Ambassador and was named Miss Turffontein second princess 2025.
Alongside the academy’s administrative team, she aims to use her platform to inspire young people across the Johannesburg South region to pursue personal growth and leadership.
Tiaras and Tuxedos was created with a vision that extends beyond traditional pageantry. Guided by its motto, More Than Beauty, the academy combines pageant training with personal development, education and community engagement.
Through workshops, mentorship programmes and talent development opportunities, participants will gain skills in leadership, public speaking, confidence building and social responsibility.
According to the organisers, the academy intends to create a safe and inspiring environment where young people can grow into confident, purpose-driven individuals. The programme will also encourage participants to become active contributors within their communities by participating in outreach initiatives, charitable projects and local awareness campaigns.
The founders believe the initiative is particularly important for communities in Johannesburg South, where positive youth development programmes can play a vital role in shaping the next generation of leaders.
“Our goal is not only to crown winners, but to build character, inspire ambition, and give young people a platform where their voices and talents can be recognised,” organisers said.
The launch event will introduce the academy’s programmess, upcoming pageants, and development opportunities. It is open to aspiring models, pageant directors, parents, supporters, and community members who would like to learn more about the initiative and explore collaboration opportunities.
