129 suspects arrested in 6 days throughout Gauteng

A total of 55 suspects were arrested for the possession of drugs.

Rapid Response Services comprising the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 129 suspects, recovering 39 motor vehicles and 10 firearms from April 26 to May 2.

The members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 41 arrests for serious crimes, including assault common and GBH, attempted murder, intimidation, theft, possession of suspected stolen property, attempted robbery, malicious damage to property and reckless driving.

The members recovered thirty-nine hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, with 15 arrests for the possession of these vehicles. Ten unlicensed firearms were recovered, accompanying 18 arrests.

In further policing, the team made 55 arrests for the possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

BFS spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin said the investigation continued in these cases. The suspects appeared in various magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
