Female EMPD officers arrest 30 pedestrians for unsafe freeway crossings
The Women’s Month operation targeted the growing problem of pedestrians endangering lives by crossing the N17, R21, and M1 freeways illegally.
In a pedestrian operation conducted on August 21, female EMPD officers arrested 30 pedestrians for crossing the N17, R21, and M1 freeways and highways unsafely.
The operation was part of the Women’s Month program and aimed to address the growing concern of pedestrians crossing freeways and highways unsafely, which has led to an increase in fatal accidents.

The arrested pedestrians, aged between 23 and 45, faced charges of violating the National Road Traffic Act and associated regulations.

According to EMPD, crossing the freeways and highways poses a significant safety risk for both pedestrians and drivers and can lead to fatal road accidents.
EMPD spokesperson William Ntladi stated, “We urge pedestrians to always use designated pedestrian bridges to cross the freeway. It’s crucial for their safety and the safety of others.”
