DA conducts oversight inspection at the Xavier Juntion DLTC
The new Drivers Licence Testing Centre space, which will not be ready until November, will accommodate residents who use wheelchairs.
Only three of six eye testing machines are operational at the Xavier Junction DLTC (Drivers Licence and Testing Centre) in Ormonde, Johannesburg south.
This increases waiting times and causes unnecessary inconvenience for motorists seeking to renew or obtain a driver’s licence.
This followed after an oversight inspection by the DA Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Fred Nel, and DA spokesperson for the same department, Evert du Plessis at the centre on October 13.
While this DLTC appears to be in good working order, they discovered there is no backup generator and also staff shortages.
This means that when load-shedding occurs during the day, the traffic department is unable to function. However, to deal with any backlog that may result, the DLTC operates on weekends.
Furthermore, this DLTC is not wheelchair accessible. The new DLTC space, which will not be ready until November, will accommodate residents who use wheelchairs.
Once the renovations at this testing centre are completed, it will have cutting-edge technology for conducting learner’s licence tests online, which will aid in the elimination of corruption.
The DA will table questions in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature to determine the following:
• If there are any plans to procure a generator for this DLTC so that they can continue operations during load-shedding.
• The precise date they will be able to relocate to their new premises.
• Whether they will make any changes in the testing yard because the incline used to perform the brake test appears to be subpar.
“Gauteng residents deserve DLTCs that is free of corruption and use new and innovative methods to improve service delivery and driver quality on our roads,” said the DA officials.
The Comaro Chronicle is still waiting for the comment from the GPL which was sent on October 14, October 17 and October 18.
