The Hill High accused of withholding pupils’ results over unpaid fees
Teaching and learning are taking place as normal at The Hill High.
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is aware of the matter at The Hill High School where children were complaining about not receiving their statement of results due to unpaid school fees.
This was after parents complained to the Southern Courier that their children were refused to have their statements of result by the principal, due to outstanding school fees.
This happened on January 19 and 22. One parent told the Southern Courier that a fistfight almost broke out on January 22 when livid parents wanted their children’s results. There was also an alleged statement that there was no teaching at school since there was no timetable, so learners went to school for free periods.
Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson Steve Mabona confirmed that the GDE was aware of the matter regarding the statements of results.
“We intervened and advised the school to issue reports to all affected parents, as they are not allowed to withhold any learner’s report card as per our constitution. We wish to call upon parents to make necessary adjustments for outstanding fees accordingly.
“With regards to the allegations of the school not functioning as normal, the allegations were unfounded as officials were immediately dispatched to the school and it was discovered that teaching and learning are taking place as normal,” explained Mabona.
The Hill High School is one of the schools in the South that improved their matric results.
