Glenvista High honours 2 learners with white blazers

Onyiyechi Nompilo Oha and Ntwenhle Myeni received white blazers for their outstanding performances in term one.

Glenvista High honoured two Grade 12 learners with white blazers and certificates for their outstanding performances in term one.

The school awards white blazers to learners with three different full colours in their various spheres.

“Learners must have full colours in sport, service and academics and be part of Representative Council of Learners. It’s a very prestigious award that makes them stand out. It is good for children working very hard in their academics to be recognised,” said Amanda Ferreira, deputy principal of academics.

According to Ferreira, the colours for sports only are granted to students who excel outside of the school’s internal competitions.

However, learners can still be given full colours for their outstanding performance in internal games if they register for the level-three first aid course and complete a certain number of service hours at the school.

For academics, Grades 10, 11 and 12 learners must achieve a 75% average at the end of the academic year.

“When I was in Grade Eight, the female president inspired me because she had a white blazer. I took it upon myself that when I am in matric, I will also have a white blazer,” explained Onyiyechi Nompilo Oha.

Onyiyechi Nompilo Oha’s hard work earned her a white blazer.

“I put everything I wished for in steps. I aimed to be in the top 10 in Grade Eight, have a white blazer in Grade 12 and have full colours in service. I couldn’t get the full colours in service because financial constraints meant I could not do the level-three first aid course. I then went to be the school president,” said Onyiyechi Nompilo.

“Since Grade Eight, I have dreamt of this moment. I never thought I could do it, but five years down the line, here I am. I’m super excited,” said Ntwenhle Myeni.
