How to report your stolen refuse bin
To reduce risk of theft, return the bin after it has been emptied.

Pikitup is currently inundated with requests for bin replacements, and it has become clear that many residents are not fully aware of the bin application process.
To ensure a smooth application, please follow the steps below:
What to do if your bin has been stolen:
Report the stolen bin at the nearest police station, obtain a case number, and have your municipal account details ready before contacting the city’s call centre to apply for a bin replacement. This process applies to both domestic and business customers.
What to do if your bin is damaged:
Report the damaged bin by calling the city’s call centre and have your account number available when applying for a replacement.
How to request an additional bin:
Call the city’s call centre and provide your account number. You will receive a reference number, which will be used to process your request for an additional bin. Please note, that residents are required to pay for the cost of additional bins.
Once a reference number has been issued, it will be forwarded to a Pikitup official who will attend to the request. Customers should always sign the bin delivery document as proof of receipt.
Important information:
• Residents and businesses should note that no bin request will be processed without a reference number.
• According to Pikitup’s bin management policy, damaged bins will be replaced at no cost. However, lost or stolen bins will only be replaced free of charge once within a bin’s useful life, which is currently eight years.
• For sectional title properties, Pikitup will provide bins based on the number of units in the complex or the available space for storing bins. Only the property owner or managing agent may apply for bins on behalf of residents.
• Tenants wishing to apply for bins must present a letter of authority from the property owner or managing agent.
Pikitup urges residents to promptly return their bins inside their properties after emptying them to reduce the theft risk.
