WATCH: Futura Special School hosts autism awareness walk and fun day

Families and friends enjoyed the fun day at Futura Special Schools.

There was a great turnout at Futura Special School in Ridgeway as they hosted an autism awareness walk and fun day on April 12.

They partnered with the City of Johannesburg Department of Social Development. Families, young and old, participated in the 3km walk,, which started and ended at Celliers Street.

The fun walk aimed to educate the community on autism spectrum disorder and neurodiversity.

Also, try to dispel misconceptions, promote a deeper understanding of Autism to help reduce stigma and discrimination.

There was various activities including aerobics, a live band, an art auction, face painting, colour run, water slides, yoga, jumping castle, health screening as well as selling of sensory bottles and toys for use by children with autism. Different vendors set up their stands at the school field.
