Rand Water admits failure over stalled Glenvista project

Senior management visit sparks renewed hope as Rand Water commits to completing long-stalled Donnington and Camstra Roads development

A recent site visit by Rand Water’s higher-level management to Glenvista Extension 4 took place on May 16, where the Rand Water (RW) project on Donnington and Camstra Roads has been left abandoned for a few years now.

The site visit has brought new hope to the community. Ward 23 Councillor Tyrell Meyers posted a video on social media that prompted the visit, which caught the attention of Rand Water’s management.

During the visit, the RW general manager, (GM) Mbali Matiwane acknowledged that the community had been let down.

“Rand Water has suffered brand damage due to this project not being completed,” said Matiwane.

Matiwane’s attendance marked a significant step towards resolving the issue, as she opened channels for communication to address the problem and complete it.

Discussions also covered the financial contributions made by residents to maintain the area’s cleanliness, and Rand Water has agreed to address the overgrowth in their servitude.

A key point of discussion was the incomplete project and the need for land rehabilitation, which Rand Water has prioritised.

Matiwane will provide feedback on the progress, and the matter will be further addressed with the RW chief operating officer, Mahlomola Mehlo. Rand Water has acknowledged the need to rectify the situation, restore credibility, and rebuild community confidence.

This development brings hope that the issues will be resolved and the community will see tangible improvements soon.

Clr Tyrell Meyers spoke about the need to complete the project.

“RW must complete the project as the south suffers from water distribution issues. Many areas struggle to receive a regular water supply as the infrastructure can not cope with the population density, and crumbling infrastructure makes the situation worse,” said Meyers.

With Rand Water’s commitment to addressing the problem, the Glenvista community can expect a more satisfactory outcome.
