Jackson Kids Holiday Camp inspires and educates Eikenhof children

Children from the Jackson informal settlement enjoyed a fun-filled holiday camp packed with games, learning and kindness, including visits to a dog shelter and lessons in fire safety.

The Jackson Kids Holiday Camp ran at the Jackson informal settlement in Eikenhof from June 30 to July 4.

It was a resounding success, filled with laughter, learning and lots of love. The kids were overjoyed to be at the camp again.

The week was packed with exciting activities, including story time, drawing and singing. The children received jerseys and beanies to wear during winter.

The camp visited the Cause 4 Paws shelter in Jackson, where the kids spent two hours learning about dogs and how to interact with them.

A caring embrace.

With the guidance of caretaker Wisdom, the kids overcame their fears and even touched the dogs.

Learners from the Miracle Day Care and Fluffy the Fire Bunny, who taught the kids essential fire safety skills, joined the camp’s children. The kids had a blast learning about what to do in the event of a fire.

Throughout the week, the children shared love, laughter, singing and learning.

Michelle Rawbone, a camp organiser and volunteer, spoke about experiences she shared with the children.

The children enjoy fun learning activities.

“It was a blessed experience, and we are grateful for the chance to spend time with these wonderful kids. The experience was unforgettable, and we already look forward to our next visit. These kids might not have much, but they have hearts full of love, and that is what matters most,” said Rawbone.
