WATCH: ANC Youth League Ward 54 Mzala Branch gives back to Nkosi’s Haven
Their goal is to inspire fellow young South Africans to take action and make a meaningful change.
The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) Ward 54 Mzala Branch visited Nkosi’s Haven in Alan Manor to contribute to the community in a meaningful way.
In commemoration of Mandela Day, the youth league dedicated their Saturday to giving back by undertaking a series of improvements at the home, including cleaning, painting, and landscaping, demonstrating that the visit was not just a one-off gesture.
Tumelo Motsepe, a dedicated member of the ANCYL, shared the motivation behind the initiative: “We chose Nkosi’s Haven because it is in our immediate community. It is a way for us to contribute to the well-being of our neighbours.”
Nkosi’s Haven, a sanctuary for those in need, is a vital part of the community.
Nkosi’s Haven centre manager, Cynthia Ndlovu, expressed her appreciation: “We are thankful for the time and passion that these young people have invested. Their dedication to improving our home is a reminder that young people have the power to make meaningful changes in their communities. Their support humbled us.”
While the ANC Youth League focused on beautification projects, they recognised that the home’s needs went beyond just physical upkeep. Additionally, other stakeholders explored ways to address the home’s long-term sustainability.
Solutions are being explored to provide alternative sources of electricity and water, which are crucial for maintaining the home’s daily operations.

“We aim to ensure that we don’t just show up once a year and walk away. We want to continuously support Nkosi’s Haven, not only by keeping the facilities maintained but also by addressing their long-term needs,” emphasised an ANCYL member.
“As young people, we have the power to make a difference.”
This initiative is part of a broader mission by the ANCYL to inspire the youth to engage with their communities and actively contribute to social change.
“We are leading by example,” said Motsepe.
“Mandela Day is a reminder that we all have a responsibility to give back, not just through words, but through action.”
