Nova Pioneer Ormonde Primary Grade Seven learners trade books for aprons

Grade Seven learners swap books for aprons at Panarottis, gaining hands-on experience in hospitality and teamwork.

In a departure from textbooks and desks, Grade Seven learners from Nova Pioneer Ormonde Primary recently donned aprons. They entered the bustling world of hospitality at Panarottis in Gold Reef City.

This hands-on job shadowing experience offered the young Novaneers a taste of the fast-paced restaurant industry. It provided them with invaluable insight into the skills required to thrive in customer service.

The learners participated in every aspect of the experience, from greeting and serving guests to supporting kitchen operations behind the scenes.

Beyond the excitement, the day emphasised life skills such as responsibility, communication, and adaptability – qualities that transcend classroom learning and prepare learners for real-world challenges.

Reflecting Nova Pioneer’s core culture principles, the experience brought the joy of learning through practical engagement, while fostering responsibility and leadership, as learners confidently took on roles that demanded initiative and teamwork.

The dynamic environment encouraged a solutions-first mindset, with learners thinking quickly and creatively in a high-pressure setting.

“Our learners didn’t just shadow the staff; they fully immersed themselves in the experience. It was inspiring to see them apply Nova Pioneer values like creativity, resilience, and confidence beyond the classroom walls,” said Mofenyi Kgamane, the school’s communication coordinator.

By blending academic learning with practical experiences, Nova Pioneer continues to cultivate a new generation of young leaders who are confident, capable, and ready to reimagine the future.
