City Power hosts second leg of EEDSM Schools Competition

Closing date for the entries is March 30.

City Power and the City of Johannesburg announced the second leg of the Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management (EEDSM) Schools Competition for 2026.

This initiative calls on young minds from public, non-fee-paying high schools across Johannesburg to step forward with bold ideas that promote energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The competition forms part of City Power’s ongoing commitment to building a culture of responsible energy use while inspiring the next generation of innovators, problem solvers, and environmental champions.

This year’s theme is Think Green.

They encourage learners to showcase their creativity and practical thinking by developing solutions that help save electricity, protect the environment, and support a more sustainable future for the city.

Participants may enter under one or both of the 2026 focus areas:

• Energy efficiency

• Renewable energy

Schools can submit entries in three categories:

• Artistic posters illustrating energy efficiency or renewable energy ideas.

• Short videos of up to 15 minutes highlighting these themes.

• Creative models made from recycled materials that demonstrate energy solutions in action.

Beyond the learning experience, the competition offers exciting rewards. Schools can win cash prizes and other incentives, while learners can earn recognition as City Power Ambassadors and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The competition is open to all public non-fee-paying high schools in Johannesburg. Learners with parents employed by City Power or the City of Johannesburg may not participate.

Entries close on March 30. Schools are encouraged to download and complete the entry form.

All information is handled in line with POPIA requirements.

Completed entries must be submitted through the school’s appointed representative.

City Power urges principals, educators, and learners to participate in this exciting opportunity to learn, innovate, and lead change.
