After reading the article, Shots fired during armed robbery, Comaro CHRONICLE, page 4, September 6, I would like to set the matter right regarding: “These criminals shot randomly and the children who had just come out of school were actually running towards the danger. I really would have thought the school principal or staff would have kept them back.”
I would like to state the learners were coming out of the classrooms and were actually inside the schoolyard. The shooting happened outside.
My self and other staff members made sure the children were safe. School dismisses the foundation phase learners at 1pm and during this time we keep learners inside the school premises where their transport drivers collect them.
One of the robbers was shot and apprehended and I do not believe that his accomplices shot him.
I wrote a letter to inform parents about the incident. When I read the article in the newspaper it sounds like we are irresponsible and endangering the learners’ lives. This really is not the truth. Not one of the learners was hurt in the process and we actually stayed with them until the last one left the premises.
