As a member of the Glenvista Fitness Centre in the Glenvista Shopping Centre, we were informed two weeks ago that our gym will be closing its doors to make way for the redevelopment of the centre, which will include more parking and smaller shops.
The family gymnasium, which has been in existence for nearly 30 years, has been forced to close down. Whilst they have tried to accommodate members, the reality is that no other gymnasium is able to offer what they did.
The biggest loss to the community will be the Aqua-aerobics which was used by community members who cannot do impact exercise. Many of us benefitted from exercises in the pool. Thank you to people like Jean, who added so much value to our daily training for a period of 27 years!
Let’s hope the same landlords will set up a venue which will add value to the community, other than another shopping centre! How many more do we need in the South of Johannesburg?
