The Elandshaven area is in distress. We suffer from multiple power failures and cable theft.
What makes matters worse is every time there is load-shedding we sit without power for more than five hours at a time. The service delivery is a major issue and no one seems to care.
I have a blind 21-month-old daughter with me and it is becoming an issue to make her the necessities. Yesterday power went off at 16:00 and only came back on after 19:00. Today, it went off at 06:00 and has still not returned.
Over the last few months, we have had serious issues with service delivery. I thought the DA was all about change.
I have still seen no change. The roads are deteriorating, and service delivery is almost nonexistent. Crime is rampant, more and more road laws are being broken and never a single metro officer when needed.
When is the last time you drove down Cradock Street in front of Hoërskool Marais Viljoen between 13:45 and 14:30? You will find cars that illegally park on the road, not to mention the blockage on the side street due to illegal parking and the vehicles that make illegal U-turns on the zebra crossing.
I can carry on listing the issues and create a full page of problems. I am going to ask instead the mayor, what are you doing to address these problems or will it only be addressed when the residents have had enough and decide to follow Tembisa’s route?

Much-needed intervention
City of Ekurhuleni’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the power supply to all the areas that were affected has been restored.
He said there has been an increase in incidents of cable theft in the area recently.
“The portion that is fed by Germiston in Elandshaven has been affected negatively by cable theft. Altogether, about 400m of the cable has been stolen during periods of load-shedding. Elandshaven has been marked as a hot spot for theft of power supply infrastructure due to frequent incidents of theft after every period of load-shedding,” said Dlamini.
EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa advised the complainant to contact their service call centre on 086 054 300 if they happen to witness any road laws being broken into.
Thepa said the Hoërskool Marais Viljoen issue has been dealt with and that it is one of their main priorities.
“Our challenge is when we experience load-shedding. During that listed time, however, our main focus is usually on all our critical intersections where we have to cover more than 15 busy intersections, performing point duties or controlling the flow of traffic,” she said.
