Ricardo broke the record that stood for 26 years to be a world champion with the WBA Pan-African, IBO junior bantamweight and now IBO world flyweight. He is now third in the world.
Speaking exclusively to the Southern Courier/Comaro Chronicle, he said his early preparations for the fight helped a lot, “We started in early December to prepare for this fight to make sure I win it.

Although I anticipated a long fight, it took two rounds to KO Chauke. I didn’t even finish the second round. What we did in the gym with my trainer Manny Fernandes helped us win,” he said.
Fernandes congratulated him and said fighting in a lower division and winning it tested Ricardo’s character.

Ricardo is also a six-time SA amateur champion and a former Gauteng and ABU junior bantamweight champion.

On March 2, his brother, Charlton, in the bantamweight division, also won by KO against Gcina Makhoba, who had nine fights, one loss and one draw before this fight. Charlton only needed three rounds to finish Gcina in a six-round bout.
