Champions Day delivered thrilling racing action, with South Africa's top jockeys and trainers vying for top honours.

The World Pool Premier’s Champions Day Challenge took place at Turffontein Racecourse on March 29.

It was a resounding success, with some of South Africa’s finest thoroughbreds competing in 12 exciting races.

The Grade 1 World Pool Premier’s Champions Challenge was won by Fire Attack, ridden by Richard Fourie, who survived an objection to secure the coveted title.

Other notable winners on the day included Fatal Flaw, who took the R1m Club Stakes (Grade 1), and William Robertson, who won the Computaform Sprint (Grade 1) under a well-judged ride from Ryan Munger.

Legend of Arthur, trained by Sean Tarry, secured a thrilling victory in the SA Derby, the final leg of South Africa’s only Triple Crown.

The event was also marked by the induction of revered horse racing trainer Ormond Ferraris into the South African Hall of Fame.

The success of the World Pool Premier’s Champions Challenge was echoed by 4Racing CEO, Fundi Sithebe, who praised the quality and depth of South African racing and the quality of the Turffontein Racecourse.

“The level of SA Horse racing is at a high level. In terms of competition horses, Joburg has some of the best in the world. The level of Turffontein Racecourse also allows us to produce race days like this one,” said Sithebe.
