Stars Baseball Club shine on national stage with medal-winning performances
Alberton’s Stars Baseball Club made waves at the National Baseball Championships in Cape Town, bringing home bronze medals and making history as the only B teams to break into the top four.
The future of the Stars Baseball Club is blazing with promise after a stellar showing at the recent National Baseball Championships in Cape Town in April.
Three talented young players and one dedicated coach represented Gauteng, returning home with outstanding results and leaving the club beaming proudly.
Kyle Grieve and Tyler Niemand were selected to don the Gauteng B team jersey in the fiercely contested U10 division.
Defying the odds, their team delivered an inspiring performance. Against stiff competition, the boys helped their side reach the top four of the knockout stages, an exceptional accomplishment for any B team.
Their campaign ended in a third-place finish, which included a victory over another province’s A team.
Notably, they were the only B team in their age category to advance so far in the event, proving that determination and teamwork can overcome any ranking.

A crucial figure behind this success was Shaun Niemand, the coach of the Gauteng U10 B side. His passion, leadership and support proved vital in steering the young team through high-pressure moments and towards their podium finish.
The Stars Baseball Club thanks Shaun for his continued dedication to youth development in the sport.
The success didn’t end with the U10s. Jayden Edwards flew the Stars’ flag in the U12 division, also securing a spot on the Gauteng B team.
Matching the efforts of their younger counterparts, Jayden’s team powered their way to an equally impressive third place.
In a tournament full of surprises, the U12 Gauteng B side made headlines by being the only B team to break into the top four and went one better by defeating the Gauteng A team in a memorable clash.

The achievements of Kyle, Tyler, Jayden and coach Shaun are a testament to their talent, perseverance and the excellent coaching infrastructure at Stars Baseball Club.
Their performance brings pride to the club and signals a bright future for baseball in Gauteng and beyond.
The Stars Baseball Club continues to grow, offering opportunities for all ages and levels to get involved in the sport.
