Marlick brothers punch their way to national glory

Brotherly love and determination drive success in the ring.

Cassidy Marlick (16) and his younger brother Elijah Marlick (13), two talented young boxers from Ridgeway, Gauteng, are making waves on the South African boxing scene.

With nine years of experience in the ring between them, the brothers have developed a deep passion for the sport and a relentless drive to succeed.

Trained and mentored by their father, Jared Marlick, a lifelong boxing enthusiast, the brothers have proven that discipline, passion and unwavering family support can build champions.

Their recent performances at the Gauteng Junior and Schoolboy Boxing Championships in Pretoria have earned them coveted spots at the upcoming National Championships.

Cassidy, a dominant force in the junior division, has clinched the Johannesburg and Gauteng Junior Championship titles for four consecutive years.

He is now set to represent Gauteng at the National Junior Championships for the fourth year in a row, with his sights firmly set on gold, having already secured one gold, one silver and one bronze at previous Nationals.

“I’m focused on bringing home gold and proving that I’m one of the best in the country,” said Cassidy.

Elijah, competing in the schoolboy division, has been making a name for himself at just 13 years old. After winning gold at both the Johannesburg and Gauteng Schoolboy Championships, he too has qualified for the National Schoolboy Championships later this year.

“I’m thrilled to have qualified for Nationals and I’m looking forward to the challenge,” said Elijah.

The Marlick brothers’ achievements are particularly notable given the level of competition.

Only 18 to 20 boxers are selected to represent Gauteng from a provincial population of over 16 million.

The duo will now represent the province at the National Junior and Schoolboy Boxing Championships, scheduled for October/November 2025.

Cassidy’s recent appointment as Damascus Sport’s first-ever amateur brand ambassador highlights his growing presence in the sport.

The brothers’ success is the result of their dedication, hard work and the strong support of their family – and they continue to serve as an inspiration to young athletes across the country.
