Four pedestrians dead after a police vehicle ploughs into them

DOUGLASDALE – Four people died after a police vehicle of the Douglasdale police crashed into a group of pedestrians.

 

Four people, including two children, died after a Douglasdale Police Station van ploughed into the group of pedestrians near the Kya Sands informal settlement on 14 June.

The incident happened at about 1.30pm on Main Road, according to a statement released by Captain Mavela Masondo of the Gauteng police. The dead included two women aged 27 and 38, and two boys aged five and seven.

The two on-duty officers in the vehicle were injured and taken to a hospital.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened and will be transferred to the Independent Police Investigation Directorate, which investigates complaints against members of the police service.
