Joint effort nabs 48 undocumented persons

DOUGLASDALE – This is what the Joburg West Cluster has been up to.

An operation held in the Douglasdale policing area saw about 48 undocumented persons being arrested.

This was thanks to a joint effort between Joburg West Cluster’s South African Police Service, Metro police, the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Health, the City of Joburg, various security companies, neighbourhood watch and community policing forums. According to the head of communications at Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane, the suspects appeared in Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 28 and 29 November. “The first half appeared in court on the 28th and the other on the 29th as they were a large group. It appeared 43 of them were found guilty for being illegal foreign nationals. They will be deported to their homes of origin soon.

“The police would like to thank all role players involved for a good working relationship and encourage the community to keep on reporting criminal activities by phoning 011 699 1333 or 086 001 0111.”
