She described what the auditioning was like. “It was nerve-racking and I was unsure where this was going to lead. Even though it was emotionally draining it became such an exciting and enriching experience, even more so after the callback.”

About the New York trip, she said, “I feel beyond excited but also nervous at the same time. I’m also eager to see how I measure up to my peers and the international world standards. I am also looking forward to interacting with international talent scouts and showcasing my talent. “My future plans are to study internationally and this is a good opportunity to build my CV and perhaps even get a scholarship.”

Her mother, Boitumelo Phakathi, described Nokukhanya as a quiet and well-mannered child. “The arts industry is a very fickle and unstable, however, I hope that she is able to showcase her talent successfully, and to also use it as a platform to open doors that will lead to great achievements in her life.”
