Fourways kids make a difference

Matteo Williams and his best friend Mikhail Maharaj have made the Easter holidays one to enjoy.

Matteo Williams and his best friend Mikhail Maharaj embody the spirit of kindness and compassion by taking their mother’s words about helping others to heart. They understand that true charity begins at home and they are living proof of this noble principle.

These young boys vowed to challenge themselves through the charity drives they undertake every month as the year progresses. They realised early that many people often go to bed hungry and they felt that charity was the best option to assist.

On March 23, Matteo and Mikhail made good on their promise to donate and gave parcels to people in need at Kids Haven.

Matteo’s mom, Charis Williams, could not help but beam with pride. She said that these young boys delivered 178 chocolate Easter hampers to Kids Haven, a result made possible with generous contributions from family, friends, and Pick n Pay Douglasdale.

“The joy brought to the children at Kids Haven was palpable, and it warmed our hearts to witness the impact of their collective kindness. Moreover, the day was made even more special with the thoughtful gesture of the Ponnen/ Moodley family, who graciously provided lunch for everyone involved. Additionally, Xenia Williams in Grade 11 at Fourways High School and Milaana Maharaj in Grade 11 from Greyston Learning Academy organised engaging arts and crafts activities, which were thoroughly enjoyed by the children.”

This experience, according to Charis, has left all the kids more determined than ever when it comes to continuing their efforts in supporting Kids Haven and other organisations that cater to children and the elderly in the community.

“We are reaching out to those who are willing and able to join us in making a difference by getting involved with charity organisations in their respective areas,” she said.

When asked about their feelings after the visit to Kids Haven, Matteo, said, he felt complete.

“Once again, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Fourways Review for shining a spotlight on the kids’ initiative. Your support has been instrumental in spreading awareness and inspiring others to make a difference,” said Charis.
