Con Brio Cares supports new mothers this winter
Donating baby bags filled with essentials to Witkoppen Clinic, Con Brio Cares is helping new mothers and their babies start life with dignity and care.
Con Brio Cares recently delivered 10 lovingly prepared baby bags to Witkoppen Clinic, supporting the clinic’s winter warmer campaign. Each bag was filled with essential items to support mothers and their newborns during the vulnerable early days of life.
The donated baby bags contained cozy blankets, tiny beanies and booties, baby bibs, and sanitary items for mothers. Items designed to bring comfort and dignity to families in need. In addition to these, Con Brio Cares also provided 10 baby bottles, several dummies, and a bottle sterilizer, all aimed at supporting the critical aspect of newborn care.
Elindi van den Heever, founder of Con Brio Cares, shared the inspiration behind this initiative: “Our heart has always been to meet people at their most vulnerable – with dignity, compassion, and practical support. We saw, firsthand, how many mothers at clinics like Witkoppen come into motherhood with little to nothing. These bags were born out of a simple idea: No mother should feel alone or unprepared in the first moments of her baby’s life. Whether it’s a warm blanket, a soft beanie, or basic hygiene items, each item says: You are seen, and you are not alone.”

The process of assembling the bags involves a dedicated team of volunteers, including retired knitters, school learners, and corporate sponsors, who carefully select and pack items based on feedback from healthcare workers at Witkoppen Clinic. This ensures that each bag contains what is most needed, especially for premature babies or mothers facing specific challenges.
Witkoppen Clinic’s business development assistant Sbonga Shange expressed appreciation for the support. “These baby bags will make a meaningful difference for new mothers, especially those who may not be able to afford essential items. Every little bit truly helps. We’re grateful to collaborate with Con Brio Cares on this heartfelt initiative.”
Looking ahead, Con Brio Cares aims to expand its reach, planning to support more rural clinics and remote hospitals. The organisation also encourages individuals and organisations to get involved, whether through donations of baby essentials, knitting, volunteering, or spreading awareness on social media.

Van den Heever emphasises the importance of community effort. “Every small act of kindness matters. A knitted square, a donated bottle, a shared post, it all adds up to a powerful message of hope. When we come together, we remind every mother and child that they matter. Let’s keep building a South Africa where care is not a luxury but a right.”
Shange also highlighted the ongoing needs of the clinic’s families. “Many mothers face challenges, like inability to afford basic nutrition or bring their children for immunisations. Support, like this donation, helps us meet those needs, but we also need resources like food parcels, clothing, and blankets to ensure the well-being of our patients.”
