Fourways High strikes gold at Camp Discovery Soccer Festival

Fourways High School soccer boys made their mark at Camp Discovery Soccer Festival as the U19s lifted the champions trophy, and the U17s impressed with a strong quarter-final run, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.

Fourways High School’s soccer squads returned from the annual Camp Discovery Soccer Festival in Dinokeng, Limpopo, with heads held high after a weekend of top-class competition from July 6 to 8.

The festival, which attracts leading soccer schools from KwaZulu-Natal to Johannesburg, serves as a warm-up ahead of the term 3 soccer season, giving players a chance to test themselves against teams outside their usual league.

“We missed last year’s camp and tournament, but we’re back and doing our best against soccer schools around the country,” said Anthony Clayton, the head of extramurals at Fourways High School.

The U17 squad impressed on the first day of the camp, winning five of their seven matches, including a 3–1 victory over Riverside and a confident 3–0 win over Rangers in the final match of the day, showcasing strong attacking football and excellent team effort.

On July 7, the U17s continued their strong run, reaching the quarter-finals before narrowly losing 1–2 against Pinnacle Copperleaf in a hard-fought match. Despite the loss, the team displayed outstanding spirit, determination, and growing confidence for the season ahead.

“It was sad to lose in the quarters,” said Clayton, “but the U17s put in a brilliant performance, gaining experience and building confidence for the season ahead.”
