Nova Pioneer Paulshof hosts thrilling soccer and netball tournament

Nova Pioneer Paulshof's netball and soccer teams promise to bounce back from tough losses and aim for victory in the next matches later this month.

Nova Pioneer Paulshof recently made its debut as host of a soccer and netball tournament, welcoming Cooper College, Nova Pioneer Midrand, Sandton School Group, and Euro Soccer School Group to the competition.

This inaugural event was a resounding success, with the winning teams receiving certificates for their efforts and outstanding players being recognised as ‘players of the match’, said the school’s operational dean Amika Faber.

“The turnout of the parents and schools took us by surprise,” she added. “With it being our first tournament, we were not sure what to expect but were happy with the turnout. The general sportsmanship across the schools and students stood out as our students celebrated their victories but also took their losses with pride.

“We were happy to see how our students navigated the day and the multiple games that took place. Keeping their energy levels up was not a problem as the excitement of the day was continuous.”.

The excitement was palpable, with parents and spectators turning out in force to support the young athletes.

Looking ahead, Faber said Nova Pioneer Paulshof’s soccer and netball teams were gearing up for the InterNova tournament, a termly event that pits them against their peers from other campuses.

“We are also looking at another tournament later this month but we are still finalising some schools for this event. We do look forward to some future sports camps and zoning in on our other sports such as swimming and basketball.”

These are the soccer highlights:

  • U13 boys dominated with an outstanding 7-1 victory over Cooper College.
  • U11 boys played with heart and determination but the match ended 0-4 in Cooper College’s favour.
  • U10 boys put up a fierce fight in a close match, finishing 3-4 to Cooper College.

Netball highlights:

  • Grade 7 girls claimed a 9-2 win, showing their skill and teamwork.
  • Grade 6 girls fought bravely but fell short, 4-8.
  • Grade 5 girls dominated the court, securing a 4-0 victory.
  • Grade 4 girls displayed resilience, holding their ground in a 3-3 draw.
