Free vaccination at Witkoppen Clinic targets deadly disease that causes paralysis in kids

The clinic is hosting a free polio vaccination drive, in partnership with The Rotary Foundation, to ensure every child in the community is safe from this devastating disease.

Polio, also known as poliomyelitis, is a highly contagious viral disease that primarily affects children under five.

The virus attacks the nervous system and can lead to permanent paralysis, or even death.
While there is no cure for polio, it can be completely prevented through vaccination, making immunisation a vital tool in protecting children and maintaining healthy communities.

That is why Witkoppen Clinic has partnered with The Rotary Foundation to host a polio vaccination drive on November 11 at the clinic.

This initiative seeks to ensure that every child in the community is protected from the devastating effects of polio.

“The campaign is part of Rotary’s long-standing global initiative, End Polio Now,” said the clinic’s Cleopatra Fothane, “which has been instrumental in reducing polio cases worldwide by over 99% since 1988.”

She said, through this collaboration, Witkoppen Clinic and The Rotary Foundation reaffirm their shared commitment to eradicating the disease and safeguarding the next generation.

“Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their children to Witkoppen Clinic to receive the polio vaccine. No appointment is required, and all services will be offered free of charge.”
