Watercolour artist to hold outdoor exhibition
BRYANSTON - Douglasdale resident and watercolour artist Jenny Regan is working in conjunction with the Bryanston Country Club to organise an outdoor exhibition for local artists.
Regan was born in Zambia and grew up on the banks of the Kafue River.
“This was where my love for wild animals and wild places grew,” she explained.
In 1990 Regan moved to Botswana with her husband and it was there that her artwork sprung to life.
“My artwork is inspired by my lifelong love for Africa and the wildlife within,” she said. “It is through my paintings that I try to express these deep feelings to the viewer.”
Regan is no stranger to the art world. In 2004 her painting ‘Spirit of Africa’ won best painting on show at the annual Artists in Botswana exhibition, and in 2011 Regan designed a series of wild dog stamps for Botswana.
In the same year that Regan’s stamp collection came out she moved to South Africa so that she could be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Finding herself in the heart of Johannesburg Regan often took refuge at the scenic Bryanston Country Club.
By joining local art societies she soon realised that local artists often struggled to find a venue to exhibit their work.
Regan approached Bryanston Country Club and asked if they would be interested in helping her with an event to showcase the work of nine local artists.
The result is the outdoor exhibition at the club to be held on 1 December 2013.
Regan said, “The event will be a family day in which people can eat, relax and walk around while the art is bring displayed on the walkways around the club’s terrace.”
The artists will exhibit ten pieces each and all the artwork will be available for purchase.
