‘I feel good’ kid Desi gets double delight as he sweeps SA Champs with 27 medals
Beyond competitions, Desi has performed at Cheslin Kolbe’s foundation launch and been nominated for Kid Influencer of the Year.
At just 8 years old, Desmond Koolen, aka Desi, who broke the internet as the, ‘I feel good kid’, is taking the world of sports and entertainment by storm.
Fresh from his triumphant performance at the SA Champs, where he bagged an astonishing 27 medals and two overall awards, Desi’s talent, dedication, and charm have won the attention of many adoring fans nationwide.

“I’m extremely proud of myself. This year, I was in a new age group, and the competition was stronger. My goal was to medal in at least one item per category. The biggest surprise was receiving the overall achievers awards in both acting and vocal.”
He said his secret to success lies in his focus and mental preparation. Trying to stay calm by being backstage long before his item and thinking only about the piece coming up has also helped him in keeping his cool.
“Once I leave the stage, I don’t think about it again until the evening, when I debrief on what I can improve the next day.”

His vocal coach’s guidance and pre-performance warm-ups also help him stay centred. Beyond his competitive achievements, Desi’s singing talents have also earned him a coveted spot at the launch of Cheslin Kolbe’s foundation.

“Cheslin is one of my biggest inspirations. It was a full-circle moment to perform for him and his guests. His foundation aligns with my values – uplifting the community through sport and education.”
Balancing his competitive schedule with singing, influencer work, and everyday life requires careful management. But with his mom, Adele, who he calls his ‘momager’, by his side, he said he is able to brace the challenges.

“I’m selective with projects, prioritizing MC events, adverts, and performances. Homework comes first, and my parents ensure I enjoy a normal childhood.”
He said his recent nomination for Kid Influencer of the Year has left him humbled. He hopes to inspire people, make them laugh, and feel good – that’s what matters to him.
“Whether I win or lose, I want people to walk away feeling amazing and inspired.”
With exciting projects on the horizon, including literacy and educational initiatives, speaking engagements, and campaigns, Desi’s star continues to rise. As he looks forward to the December holidays, and Santa’s visit, he has one thing certain – he is here to stay.

“I didn’t ask for fame, but I’m grateful it found me. I’m changing lives, impacting people, and inspiring them – that’s the greatest reward.“
