Diepsloot Arsenal claims trophy in the second annual ‘I am a powerhouse’ tournament

The second annual 'I am a powerhouse' campaign celebrated young female athletes in Diepsloot. With several teams competing for the trophy it was Diepsloot Arsenal that took the gold in a campaign designed to empower girls in the community.

Diepsloot was abuzz with excitement as the A Million Girls Foundation, in partnership with the Youth Alive Sports Project, proudly hosted their second annual ‘I am a powerhouse’ campaign.

This empowering initiative featured a soccer clinic and an exhilarating tournament, engaging over 200 young girls from the community.

The football tournament saw fierce competition among teams, which included Diepsloot Arsenal, Real Sloot, Cobra, Riverside View, Afrika Tikkun, Black Stars, Junior Chiefs, and Diepsloot Celtics. After a day of skillful play and teamwork, Diepsloot Arsenal emerged victorious, claiming the tournament trophy.

Coach Precios Hlaka, the founder of the Youth Alive Sports Project, expressed pride in the team’s performance, stating, “The growth and determination displayed by these young athletes is truly inspiring. They are not just players, they are future leaders, and it’s an honour to coach such talented girls. I am excited for 2025 already. We hope to get more support and sponsorship earlier next year to make the event even greater.”

The A Million Girls Foundation, dedicated to empowering young females through sports and education, echoed this sentiment. “Events like ‘I am a powerhouse’ not only provide a platform for these girls to showcase their talents but also foster a sense of community and friendship.
