Crime awareness campaigns continue across Douglasdale precinct

Douglasdale SAPS and community partners continue their crime prevention outreach, engaging motorists and pedestrians with vital safety messages across busy Fourways intersections.

Douglasdale Police, alongside community and security partners, continued their series of crime prevention awareness campaigns across the precinct on October 16.

The activation took place at key intersections on Winnie Mandela Drive, Sunrise Boulevard, and Fourways Boulevard, and formed part of ongoing efforts to combat hijackings, vehicle-related theft, and common robberies in the area.

The initiative was conducted in collaboration with Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), Fidelity ADT, Night Guard Security, Thompsons Security Group, Boutique Security, and the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF).

Freda Boiles, of the Douglasdale CPF, explained that teams maintained a strong presence at the intersections, engaging directly with motorists and pedestrians. “Over 2 500 safety brochures were handed out, offering practical tips to help residents stay alert and avoid becoming victims of crime.”

Adding to the outreach, Moloko Segale, from GCIS, distributed brightly coloured shopping bags containing educational materials that focused on the protection of women, children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups.

The initiative was warmly received, with many community members expressing appreciation for the visible collaboration between law enforcement and private security.

“These campaigns strengthen community partnerships,” added Boiles, “and ensure residents are better informed about safety risks. We commend the SAPS for leading this initiative and thank all participating security service providers for their ongoing support.”

As in previous operations, officers noted that valuables, such as mobile phones, laptops, and handbags, were often left visible inside vehicles, a major contributor to opportunistic theft. Residents are once again urged to keep all valuables out of sight and remain vigilant, especially during the busy festive period.
