Criminals exploit Bluetooth to steal gadgets from cars, warns Dougladale police
Douglasdale police intensify operations this festive season, warning that criminals jam cars to steal devices.
Douglasdale Police Station has ramped up operations with intense, zero-tolerance enforcement measures, focusing on driver safety and overall road safety, as their festive season operation continues.
This, according to station commander Brigadier Arikum Veeshani.
“During our ongoing festive season operations, our priority remains ensuring that drivers adhere to the law and that the roads are safe for all,” Veeshani said.

She added in recent operations, 11 individuals were arrested for driving under the influence.
All suspects were formally charged and have appeared in court.
Other notable successes include arrests and charges related to theft, possession of stolen property, dealing in liquor without a licence, and assault.
Veeshani also addressed the community regarding thefts from vehicles, noting that laptops are among the most commonly targeted items.
She urged residents to ensure laptops are completely switched off, as devices with Bluetooth can be detected by criminals.

“Residents should avoid leaving valuables such as laptops, cellphones, and other expensive items in their vehicles, as these are easy targets.
Also, always check that your car is locked before leaving, as jamming devices are often used to gain access.”
The station commander further reminded the public that reporting false cases is a criminal offence.
