Tracy Kensey, suburb manager of the Sunninghill Community Ratepayers Association, said the issue has persisted for close to two years despite repeated reports to the relevant authorities. “The road has become highly dangerous for motorists especially those who were unfamiliar with it.

“Most of our street lights don’t work. They have been reported on and off for close to two years.”

Describing the extent of the damage, Kensey said the road requires more than temporary fixes. “It is an extremely bad case which requires resurfacing. There’s really no use in trying to patch this. It is an extremely dangerous section of road.”
The association is now calling on Johannesburg Roads Agency to prioritise full resurfacing of the affected section, estimated to span about 30m.
Johannesburg Roads Agency was contacted for comment. More information will be provided once it becomes available.
