EFC fighter’s championship dreams put on hold after stunning loss to ‘The Kid’

Confidence turned to heartbreak for Ayanda Zwane as he suffered a stunning comeback defeat at the hands of Billy 'The Kid' Oosthuizen, but he views the loss as a mere stepping stone to future glory.

Ayanda Zwane’s confidence ahead of his matchup against Billy ‘The Kid’ Oosthuizen proved to be his undoing, as he suffered a stunning comeback defeat at the hands of ‘The Kid’.

Despite dominating the first two rounds with his slick kickboxing and mercurial movement, Zwane’s momentum was brutally halted in the third round, as Oosthuizen staged a dramatic turnaround, taking Zwane down and sinking in a rear-naked chokehold to secure a devastating tap-out victory.

“I feel great. I am taking my loss very well. I thought I would get my win but things did not go as planned at the last minute,” said Zwane after the fight.

He said he is proud that he gave his fans a show to remember, even though he sustained a minor injury. “That punch landed, and now I have a blue eye, but I will definitely come back a stronger soldier. The challenge was only the fact that it was hot in the hexagon during the fight.”

Before his fight, Zwane said his strategy to take the win was to destroy Oosthuizen after dedicating much of his time at the gym. Even though things did not go his way, he still had his fans and team on their feet chanting: ‘Go Pinkie’, to support him.

Zwane knows his success as a fighter wouldn’t be possible without the support of his team and sponsors. “It’s the people around me that set me apart from the rest. They put in the work, day in and day out, to help me showcase my skills, and I’m grateful for their support.”

The build-up to the match was an emotional rollercoaster for Zwane, who lost his grandmother during his training camp. However, he bounced back, thanks to the support of his team. “We’ve got some new things in the back pocket that we can’t wait to show the fans.”

He said becoming a champion wasn’t just about personal achievement, it was about inspiring the next generation of young fighters. “Becoming a champion won’t be just for me; it will be for every young kid out there who has been told they can’t achieve their dreams. I want to show them that it’s possible to make it to the top, and I’m willing to put in the hard work to make it happen.”
