Cooper College learners take charity to heart with outreach initiative
The school's outreach programme shows what it means to live the values of empathy, compassion, and kindness.

For many, the saying ‘charity begins at home’ is a reminder of the importance of community and kindness.
For Cooper College learners, these words are more than just a motto – they’re a call to action.
The college’s high school outreach programme is proof of this commitment, as the learners take the spirit of charity and compassion beyond the confines of their classrooms and into the heart of their community.

Recently, the Grade 7 learners visited A New Hope Dog Rescue shelter, where they spent time with dogs in need.
“We are thrilled to announce the launch of our high school outreach programme at Cooper College, kicking off with our wonderful Grade 7 learners,” said the school’s marketer Keshia Rakgoale. “This initiative embodies our core value of thoughtfulness – the idea of truly considering the needs of others and making a difference in the community. It’s all about encouraging our students to think beyond themselves and give back, and we couldn’t be more excited about the inspiring journey that has already begun.”

She added over the past two Saturdays, the Grade 7s had the opportunity to visit the animal rescue centre where they showed incredible care and compassion for dogs in need.

“It was a joy to witness their enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, and dedication to brightening the lives of these animals. The kindness they displayed not only brought joy to the dogs but also enriched their sense of empathy and community spirit. Our second group will continue the outreach on March 15, and we’re sure they’ll leave an equally lasting impact.”

Rakgoale said this outreach programme was so much more than just acts of kindness, it was about developing the character skills that would help their learners become thoughtful, compassionate individuals.

“The thoughtful actions of our Grader 7 learners have already set a beautiful example for all of us and we are proud of the difference they’re making. But this is just the beginning. We are excited to continue this journey with our Grade 7s and look forward to expanding our outreach efforts to the rest of the high school.”
