Knitwits’ knitathon spreads joy and support to those in need

The event, held at Dainfern Square, aimed to raise awareness about The Knitwits' work and impart creative skills to the community.

“I am here to give my thanks as we get donations from them,” said grateful Elindi Van den Heever, the founder of Con Brio Cares.

This is after the non-profit organisation joined the Knitwits on their latest project to celebrate Mother’s Day. The Knitwits hosted a special knitathon event on May 9 and 10 at Dainfern Square.

The KnitWits refers to a movement, primarily associated with the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day project, launched by Carolyn Steyn over a decade ago. The community heeded the call from the Knitwits to join them in creating blankets for those in need, and they did just that.

“It is such a well organised event,” said Van den Heever. “Lisa did an amazing job. It was wonderful to meet the people who knit with their heart to help those who need it most.

“From Con Brio Cares, we thank every person involved, with all our hearts, for the donations we receive from this amazing group of people.”
