Police in Douglasdale have made several significant arrests in recent operations, with cases ranging from sexual assault and murder to robbery and fraud.

Station Commander, Brigadier Veeshani Arikum, confirmed that an adult male has been arrested for the sexual assault of two minors. She stated that the suspect had already appeared in court and was remanded in custody.

In a separate incident, another suspect was arrested for murder after he allegedly shot his friend. The suspect also appeared in court.

Douglasdale police also reported success in tackling robbery cases in the area. Five suspects were arrested for the robbery of cellphones. The suspects, who were travelling in a vehicle, stopped at a restaurant and grabbed a cellphone.

“Members of the Crime Prevention Unit intercepted the vehicle shortly afterward and found the victim’s phone inside. All suspects were taken into custody and later appeared in court,” said Arikum.

She said other arrests made in the policing precinct included cases of theft, bilking, drunk driving, fraud, assault, and malicious damage to property.

Arikum confirmed that all suspects arrested during these operations have appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

The arrests form part of Douglasdale police’s continued efforts to curb crime in the community and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.
