Residents ‘dice with death’ at non-functioning Witkoppen Road traffic lights
Faulty traffic lights on Witkoppen Road, at Bryan Brook Estate, have resulted in yet another accident, resulting in residents’ being at their wits’ end.
Dawie Mullins says he is at his wits’ end, after almost two years of battling with faulty traffic lights at the intersection of Witkoppen Road and Bryan Brook Estate in Paulshof.
These non-functioning signals have turned the intersection into a daily hazard, as cars speed through unchecked.

Mullins, a resident of Bryan Brook Estate and a victim of an accident at the site, said his frustrations deepened on September 19, when another resident of the estate was involved in a collision at the same spot.
He has kept a record of references and reports, submitted about the intersection, as seen by Fourways Review, but despite his efforts, the problem persists, continuing to put motorists and residents in danger. “Nothing ever gets done.”

Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy said the request to fix the traffic lights has been repeatedly ignored for the last two years. He’s called on the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport to make funds available to fix these traffic lights, “as the residents constantly dice with death, and the fear of accidents.
“This is because most motorists on Witkoppen Drive do not stop, or even yield, making the intersection dangerous for egress and entrance.”
The department has done little to dispel allegations that it is ignoring repeated requests from residents, and Reddy, to resolve the issue. “Residents are tired, and angry, at being ignored,” said Reddy.
For three weeks, Fourways Review sent multiple queries and endless follow-ups to the department, yet no response has been received to date. We will continue to follow up with the department, and will publish a response if we receive one.
