Lonehill community faces rain and mud to raise money at the Triple Mile Fundraiser

Despite the drizzle, the spirit of Lonehill residents burned bright as they came together for fitness, fun, and fundraising.

The Lonehill community proved that not even wet weather could dampen their spirits, as residents gathered at Lonehill Shopping Centre for the annual Lonehill Triple Mile Fundraiser.

October 18 kicked off with an energising 5km trail run through the scenic Lonehill Park, where participants braved the rain with smiles, laughter, and a shared sense of purpose. The festivities continued in the centre court, where runners and supporters enjoyed a cheerful prize-giving ceremony and lucky draw.

The fundraiser, now in its third year, was hosted by Lonehill Shopping Centre in support of the Lonehill Residents Association (LRA). It was a heartwarming display of community spirit, with local stores sponsoring prizes and contributing towards the day’s success.

Sunell Pelser, portfolio marketing manager at PropertySmith, said the event once again highlighted what makes Lonehill special.

“All proceeds from the event will go directly to the LRA, to support ongoing park improvement projects and community initiatives. In addition to the funds raised, the Lonehill Shopping Centre proudly donated an extra R15 000 to support the LRA’s efforts further.”

Speaking on behalf of the LRA, Shelly Miller shared how meaningful the event’s support is to ongoing environmental challenges in the area. “For the past three years, Lonehill Shopping Centre has hosted this event to raise funds for the Lonehill Community Improvement Initiative.

“Despite Nadeem Abraham and his green team’s innovative rim-flow device to remove them, it’s still too small for the job.

This generous donation will help us build a bigger version, and continue our efforts to keep the Lonehill Dam looking great.”

Through rain and mud, Lonehill residents once again proved that their unity, generosity, and love for their neighbourhood remains unshakable.
