Councillor engages mall owners over illegal dumping in Craigavon
Ward 94 councillor David Foley has contacted Fourways Mall management, who have reportedly promised to clean the site and block access, as locals speak out against the environmental and safety risks posed by people who illegally dump on the land.
Ward 94 councillor David Foley has confirmed that he has been in contact with the Accelerate Group, which owns Fourways Mall, regarding ongoing illegal dumping at the corner of Willow and Campbell roads in Craigavon.
Illegal dumping has increasingly become a problem across parts of Fourways and surrounding areas, with residents raising concerns about repeated incidents and a lack of accountability.

Not long ago, Clay Oven informal settlement resident Zola Kupa said he was forced to intervene when he caught a truck dumping building rubble at the entrance of the informal settlement last year.
Kupa said the area has developed a reputation as a convenient dumping ground for contractors who assume there will be no consequences.
“People think they can just dump here because it’s an informal settlement. They don’t care about the environment or the people who live here. It shows a complete lack of respect, and that’s why I had to stop that truck,” he said at the time.
In a message seen by Fourways Review on January 14, Fourways Mall management informed Foley that they would address the Craigavon matter by cleaning the affected area and closing off access points to prevent further dumping.
The illegal dumping at the Craigavon site, which Prasheem Maharaj, one of the residents says has been steadily increasing since September, consists mainly of building rubble and general waste.

Maharaj has raised concerns over the past four months, saying the site has become an eyesore at one of the main entrances into the suburb and poses environmental and safety risks if left unresolved.
“This is not only an eyesore to residents as we enter our area, but also a deep concern that if left unresolved, it will result in a situation that we cannot resolve.” Foley conducted an onsite inspection and noted that those responsible for dumping are accessing the area just off the intersection, allowing the problem to persist.
“After visiting the site, it is clear that the dumping is growing. Blocking off this entrance would effectively stop it, and additional security patrols will also assist.”
