Councillor drives through ‘donga’ on Paulshof road, calls for urgent repairs
Months after a Johannesburg Water pipe repair project left part of Pangola Street excavated, Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy says residents are still waiting for the road to be properly reinstated.
Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy has called on the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to urgently repair a section of Pangola Street in Paulshof that has remained damaged months after water infrastructure works were completed.
Speaking while driving through the affected area, Reddy described the road as resembling a ‘donga’ and said residents were becoming increasingly frustrated by the delay in restoring it.

Reddy said the damaged section resulted from a Johannesburg Water pipe repair project. However, he said the site has not yet been reinstated despite assurances that the matter had been handed over to JRA.
“This, in fact, is a Johannesburg Water pipe repair which has never been properly made safe, nor has it been reinstated by JRA.”
He said that Johannesburg Water had informed him that a reinstatement order was issued to JRA in December 2025, but residents were still waiting for the work to be carried out.
While motorists can still access surrounding roads, Reddy said the damaged section has forced many residents to take lengthy detours.
He noted that a route that would normally require travelling about 150m now requires a detour of approximately 500m.

“The problem here is not so much the detour, it’s the inconvenience. Why do we have to let our residents live like this?” He warned that delays in reinstating roads after infrastructure repairs were negatively affecting neighbourhoods and diminishing the appearance of residential areas.
“We are busy destroying beautiful suburbs by not doing reinstatements, and this is not right at all.” He also raised concerns about road safety, particularly for motorists driving smaller vehicles and elderly residents who may struggle to navigate the uneven surface.
Reddy has urged JRA to prioritise outstanding reinstatement projects and complete the necessary repairs. “At what point are we going to contribute to the beautification of our neighbourhoods to make sure that our roads are safe and drivable?”
The roads agency has been contacted for comment on June 11. An update will be provided once available.
