The IIE's Varsity College Waterfall's star footballer Nyakallo Tsoka is gearing up for a crucial match against Rover Stars. Can they maintain their momentum and reach the top of the league? Tsoka shares his ambitions about the game.

The local football scene is heating up for The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall’s team, and all eyes are on the upcoming away game against Rover Stars football team.

The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall’s very own football star, Nyakallo Tsoka, is gearing up for this big match, and he can’t wait for his team to battle for the top spot in the league.

“This is our return fixture against them. We won the first fixture and asserted our authority against them, so, it will be a boost in confidence going into the second fixture. We are currently in joint second place with NXT Gen, so, at this stage every point becomes vital as we look to open a gap and battle for the summit of the league.”

He said the performance of the team in recent games has been good but not perfect, as they have picked up 11 points from a maximum of 15 in the last 5 games.

“What I have managed to do very well is ball retention, which helps me keep the ball for longer periods of time over my opponent, and ultimately creates an identity within my gameplay. The area I’m currently working on improving, within myself for the team, is my heading ability which would make my ball playing easier.”

Currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce in Strategic Management degree, Tsoka is no stranger to balancing academics and athletics.

Tsoka feels fortunate to represent his school in both academics and sports. As a result, he benefits from a carefully managed schedule that allows him to excel in both areas.

“So, there isn’t really anything I need to do specifically in order to maintain my performances.

“I’ve always been a logical and analytical person, so it became clear that I was going to pursue my study journey through this course.”

He said his personal goals are to play to the best of of his abilities and potentially get poached by institutions that have closer connections to the professional stage.

“As a team, there are goals as we look to finish at the top of the league, and win the championship, which would also make it easier for us to accomplish our goal of moving into a higher league and ranking.”
