Diepsloot Sporting FC senior squad delivered a 5–0 victory against Cobra United over the weekend, leaving fans in awe, and opponents daunted by their dominance.

“This win is not just about what happened on game day; it’s a reflection of the countless hours our boys have put into training, their determination, and their unwavering commitment to improving. Their efforts are finally paying off, and we couldn’t be prouder.”
Leading from the front was Captain Lwandle ‘Kros’ Mahlangu, whose exceptional leadership and tenacity have been integral to the squad’s success.

His performance was complemented by Zibusiso Rani, recognized as a scoring machine, whose contributions were essential in securing the victory.

This victory not only boosts the team’s morale but also underscores a broader narrative: The humble beginnings of Diepsloot Sporting FC.

Founded as part of a community-driven initiative by Prudent Sibindi, the journey began in 2006, when he engaged with children at the Akani Diepsloot Foundation.

With the encouragement of mentor David Mabusela, the vision to form a football team blossomed, leading to the establishment of Akani FC in 2012.

As the years passed, the team faced challenges, including the loss of sponsorship and the closure of the foundation.

However, resilience prevailed. Diepsloot Sporting FC emerged from those trials, now boasting divisions from U10 to seniors, as well as a thriving girls’ team, DZ Movers FC, guided by Dumisani Zungu.

Under new leadership, and with unwavering community support, Diepsloot has gained national recognition.

Former goalkeeper Matshidiso ‘Queen’ Masebe’s recent accolade as the Hollywood Super League’s Goalkeeper of the Season with the University of Johannesburg, stands as a testament to the talent nurtured within this vibrant community.

As Diepsloot Sporting FC continues to pave the way for young footballers, the needs remain significant. Essentials such as soccer balls, boots, and first aid kits are critical for sustaining their programmes.

Contributions toward new kits for the senior ladies, training equipment, and coaches’ salaries are vital for fostering a platform where young athletes can thrive.

“We invite everyone to join us on this journey together. We can empower the next generation of football stars and build a brighter future for our community,” said Sibindi. Details: Email the coach Prudent Sibindi at prudent.sibindi@yahoo.com or call 084 747 6774.
