Kendra Reid and Magic excel at 2025 SA Showjumping
Kendra Reid and her fiery mare Magic jumped to a podium finish for Gauteng at the 2025 SA Youth Showjumping Championships in Kyalami.
Twelve-year-old Kendra Reid and her mare Magic, whom she affectionately calls her ‘fiery demon,’ impressed at the 2025 SA Youth Showjumping, claiming silver and helping their team secure the championship title.
Under the guidance of coach and mentor Claudia Graunke at Cavalier Equine Centre, the dynamic duo’s hard work paid off at the South African Youth Championship held at Kyalami Equestrian Park from June 28 to July 6.
The national show, which draws the country’s top riders aged 9 to 18, saw Kendra representing the Gauteng provincial junior showjumping team (12–18 years) in the 80cm class.
Competing across three days, Kendra and Magic placed 2nd in the A2 speed class on day one, 4th in the 2-phase on day two, and ended the championship with a spectacular 2nd place in the final speed round, missing the win by a split-second margin.

The victories did not end there, as the Gauteng team went on to win the team championship, cementing a weekend of unforgettable moments for Kendra and her spirited mare.
“The feeling after the jump-off and knowing it was an amazing ride was pure, unfiltered happiness. There are moments when Magic and I feel like one, in perfect unison, and it’s blissful joy.”
Kendra joined Cavalier Equine Centre in August 2024, quickly building a phenomenal partnership with Magic under Graunke’s watchful eye.
“It’s an indescribable feeling seeing your students excel. The road only gets tougher, but so do the riders and the horses. Kendra and Magic are a testament to hard work and a love for the sport,” said coach Graunke.

Kendra’s parents, Carina and Peter Reid, expressed immense pride in their daughter’s achievements.
“We are so extremely proud of her and her partner. They have worked hard and been very brave together through every setback, and they have triumphed together. What a great partnership, superstars together,” said Carina.
